Something else than wood
Description:
Trees are one of nature’s most important links for life on Earth: they protect the soil, absorb CO2, produce oxygen, pollen, fruit, shade, shelter… Yet millions of them are still being destroyed every year.
This work is inspired by a short video in which a voice-over from Mother Nature says: “I don’t need us, but you need me; I will go on, but you will become extinct”.
This work is about that. The tree burns, but it looks at us, knowing that it is us who are in danger.
Awards:
2019/12 Honorable Mention. TIFA 2019 (Tokyo International Photography Awards, 4th Edition, 97 countries). Category: Professional. Section: Editorial/Environmental
2019/10 Honorable Mention. Ibero-American Biennial of Graphic Arts of Caceres
Note: close to 50% of the viewers think this is a volcano. It is not. It is part of a tree trunk. I placed the photo of the eye and the fire (I took both pictures, besides the photo of the tree) and I painted digitally the smoke and the embers.

Media selection (paper finish)
Matte – Canson Infinity Edition Etching Rag 310 g/m2
To print this work I will use my favorite matte museum-quality paper: Canson Infinity Edition Etching Rag, slightly textured, with a complete absence of reflection. It provides a subtle pictorial appearance, more poetic, in line with the image look and story. You will believe that the eye is really there looking at you.
